Alvin Lee is a guitar legend of rock &
roll music and deserves such a title. Alvin Lee or the band name 10 Years After
are sinominous. Alvin goes way back to include his appearance at the original
Woodstock. When I first photographed him it was the first time I ever saw him
live. Seeing a performer live is not the same thing as seeing them on video or
TV. I think most music enthusiasts will agree. I photographed Alvin for the
first time at the Bikers Fest in San Daniele where Alvin Lee performed before
Motorhead. When Alvin began to play I just went wild. His music and ability to
play the guitar stunned me so that all I could do was listen in awe and shoot
until I had no more film. He got me so wound up in his greatness as a rock &
roll guitar player that I forgot to save film for the next concert. He blew me
away! Sorry Motorhead but Alvin just was an overwhelmin and irresistable subject
I had to focus on. All I could do after the concert was for days on end keep on
telling my wife what I saw and heard from this man. I was also fortunate enough
to meet him on stage and once again photograph him a few months later in the
autumn. After I photographed him for the second time I was invited back stage by
Alvin's drummer Alan Young to party with the band. It was a great party and the
memories are still fresh in my mind. Alvin Lee is one of those REAL Rock &
Roll guitarist that has inspired thousands of other guitarists in the business
and fans alike. Keep on Rockin' as Alvin would say.
NB Since Alvin Lee's concerts are basically my first concerts, I do not have as many as I would like. However,
I'm positive you will like these.
