My first encounter with their music was with the I ROBOT album and then PYRAMIDS, TALES MYSTERIES AND IMMAGINATION OF EDGAR ALAN POE, TURN OF A FRIENDLY CARD, EVE, and AMONIA AVENUE. I am a little partial to the "Edgar Alan Poe" album but, I like them all. I was taken by the vast musical horizon this music proposed to include classical music and the use of orchesratal instrumentation inserted in a modern rock sound. The music is motivating, exhilirating, passionate, romantic, and futuristic if you can put labels on such music. My opinion is that it is always best to listen to the music and come to your own conclusions without putting too much reliability on labels that others put on it. The most important aspect of the Alan Parsons Project is that all people have found a sound that they appreciate and like. That is the beauty of the "Project."
The concern I had after listeneing to this music was that I thought it was limited to studio recordings and could not "cut it" live. Well, on 23 May 1998 I attended my very first Alan Parsons Project live concert in Trieste, Italy. I was amazed! All the effects and sounds I heard on the albums I listened to were perfectly performed live. The musicianship of the members of the band was superb! Not only did I stay to listen to the entire concert because I was captivated by what I was hearing but, I also had the opportunity to photograph the entire concert. Due to the lack of good security at the venue I was able to find my way bacstage and kindly approach Alan Parsons. He was kind, receptive, and willing to give me a chance to send him my photos. My photos were received with great enthusiasm and we made a mustual deal for the use of the photos. Alan parsons was also grascious enough to give me his autograph.
Well, 8 years passed by until my next encounter with Alan. The next concert I witnessed live was on 29 July 2006 in Trieste again. The Alan Parsons Project was now called The Alan Parsons Live Project with a whole new line up. I did not know this line up and was curious. Once again, Alan Parsons has surrounded himself with exceptional musicians and rendered an excellent live performance for over 7,000 people. It was my wife's first time seeing the "Project" live and she was estatic. Once again Alan Parsons delivered a memorable concert with sounds and music only he can reproduce with his keen insightin choosing the perfect musicians to play his music.
All I can say is that if you get the chance to attend an Alan parsons concert, by all means go! Enjoy the photos of these great musicians. A special mention goes out to my "paesani" (Godfrey, Manny, John, and Steve) from New York and New Jersey who are now members of the Alan Parsons Live Project.
The East Coast Rules!
The Alan Parsons Project is undoubtedly one of those groups / projects that has made a world wide success since it began. Due to its particular precision and care to music and musical themes. I really don't think there is a place in the world that has not heard the music of the Alan Parsons Project. The group plays such universal sounds that their music touches everyone globaly.
